She’s fed up with dating, and he’s
focusing on his business.
Nicole Brown wants to take a break from dating and focus on herself and her
career. With a touch more effort, she can be the top salesperson at her
company. The money would be nice, spoiling her nieces and nephews, nicer, but
her plans for a quiet weekend are shelved when Megan the Matchmaker insists
Nicole meet a charming, retired professional athlete for a blind date.
Jonathan Wright has a tonne of work to do. He’s moved back to his hometown just
in time for Christmas and related social gatherings. He needs time, routine,
and energy to start his swim coaching business and not distractions, time
sinks, and doing a favour for a friend of someone’s brother’s plumber to meet a
stranger in a park.
When things start to click between Nicole and Jonathan, a casual stroll in the
park with hot chocolates snowballs into a rally to save the Christmas spirit.
My review
This novela is the second of the Megan the
Matchmaker's Brilliant Blind Dates and I liked the concept. I’m fed up reading
about heartbreaking and ghosting when it comes to dating. So, I found it
refreshing that the two protagonists care to know each other without falling in
love the first time they see each other.
You don’t have to read A Coffee For Two to understand
the story, however it’s always a good thing to begin with book 1. This one is
happening during the holidays, which is a period that I’m not a huge fan, but I
liked how they talked about Christmas music. It’s the part that made me laugh
the most.
It’s hard to choose a favorite character, yet I
will give my start to Nicole, maybe because I can relate to her the most. I
have a busy schedule with my two jobs and the gym; I don’t possess much time to
meet people. I understand that she doesn’t want to lose time on dating, but if
I had a friend like Meghan, I would probably change my mind too.
Jonathan was great too, especially when he
played a role in saving Christmas after an incident happened.
Excerpts
“You went out once in the entire month, and
that’s because your favourite band was playing.” (p.2)
“Now it’s just going to the gym, hot yoga, and
swimming.” (p.10)
I want to show them how physical activity can
help them focus and become more productive and healthier. People don’t realise
how bad cortisol is for their physical and mental health. (p.18)
“I thought I’d escape it at my gym, but it’s
nothing but wall-to-wall Christmas music. It’s not like the classics from the
fifties or sixties. It’s all children’s songs that have catchy tunes and
repetitive words that stick in your head all day. Even had a dream with those
songs playing in the background.” (p.20)
“Taylor Swift, Billie Ellish, Ariana Grande.
That sort of music, but most of the time, I listen to podcast. You?” (p.22)
“Some people get more desperate this time of
year. It seems everyone else around them has all the food, family, and friends
and the parties and presents, and they’re left behind.” (p.46)
