David
Shepard thought he'd found the love of his life, the reason to leave behind his
career of hunting down paranormal creatures. Gwen is exactly what he needs.
Smart and beautiful, and more importantly, in love with him despite his
inability to tell her what he does for a living. Until he spots the birthmark
on her body that marks her as a born werewolf, forcing him to leave without a
word.
It's her
pack that he and his family are targeting, and now he must choose between the
loyalty he has to his family, or the love of a woman who might very well
literally rip his heart out in his sleep. But he can't believe that Gwen is a
wild and dangerous werewolf. Not his Gwen, so when his choice is made, David
will prepare for a fight that could cost him the lives of everyone he loves,
for the sake of sparing the love of his life.
My
review
The good
news is even though it’s a third book from a series, you do not have to read
the two others to understand it. I only read The vampire curse and it was so
long ago that I did not remember the story and it doesn’t stop be to enjoy
David and Gwen adventure. The second book is called The legend of the werewolf.
The only thing they have in common is the main characters are dark creatures.
If you read
other werewolves’ novel, you know that family and pack are important for them.
It’s also the case for Gwen. For that reason, there is a love triangle because
she is supposing to love someone from her pack and not the enemy. Normally, I
love enemies to lovers stories and I always tried to guest which one of the
protagonist will fall for the other first. Maybe this time, it’s different and
Gwen will choose the right person, I will let you discover by reading the
novel.
Bitten will
always be my favorite books, but this one has potential especially if you do
not like story that aren’t dark. There is some friendship that will end, some
battles as well, but if you like sweet I can recommend it to you. I told you
about family, but friendship is also another important theme in the story.
It’s one of
my favorite books from the author. I only have one left in my TBR. I missed
seeing her at signing so I could get more books. If you like romance, you
should follow her because she tried different type of genre and I am sure you
can at least one book you will love.
Excerpts
He was a
hunter; he wasn’t supposed to sympathize with vampires, werewolves, whatever,
but enough was enough. He couldn’t take watching them pick and poke at Jocob,
the vampire who was helping them with their tracking. (p.1)
Shepard
didn’t try to touch her again, but he knelt before her and spoke. " Gwen, please understand that I’ve tried. I’ve really tried to get out.
I’ve never killed a werewolf that didn’t deserve it since I was a kid. Before
then, I never even knew they were people. " (p.50)
In
Shepard’s eyes, anyone who wanted to learn it was not to be trusted and he
wasn’t about to stop to get to know anyone to find out if their talent was
natural. It was all bad news. (p.63)
A chill went
up her spine. That book in the wrong hands could hurt so many people, not even
her home would be safe. Did David know it was gone? Would he have told her if
he did? (p.100)
Though Gwen
was ashamed to admit it, she didn’t know who she was more fearful for, her
father, who knew how to take care of himself but hadn’t fought for years or
David, who was weak, but a trained hunter. (p.154)
